Pinback is an indie pop project led by Rob Crow and Armistead Burwell (Zach) Smith IV. I don’t know why that shortens to Zach, but apparently it does. Anyway, they’re from San Diego and originally intended for Pinback to be a side-project while each was on break from other bands. But something seems to have clicked as their other bands have gone on hiatus while Pinback has now released multiple albums. The latest offering, Summer in Abaddon, is their first with Touch & Go Records. If you’re a fan of groups like Modest Mouse or The Shins, you might find this to be up your alley.

Anybody have any idea what “Fortress” might be about? It sounds….uhh, groovy?….and I like it, but I can’t really decipher the lyrics. Perhaps there’s no meaning at all. Or maybe I’m just not trying hard enough. “Too long till fall. Sick summer in bed. You and a lazy mood. 10 times the fall. Spread, sacked, and I’ve failed. Nobody Move. … Stop it’s too late. I’m feeling frustrated. I see no sign of fortress, I see no sign of fortress”.
