Ambulance Ltd labels themselves as equal parts space rock, shoegaze, and new wave revival. I’ve seen these Brooklynites in person twice. The first time was last April when they opened for The Thrills at the Annex in Madison. I had never heard of them before that show, but I left quite impressed.

So much so that I bought their debut self-titled album, a.k.a. merely LP (their previous release was a short-player dubbed EP), soon thereafter. At some point along the timeline, I found out that although they’ve got an “Ltd” on their name, they prefer to be called simply Ambulance rather than Ambulance Limited. I don’t get it. But whatever. Anyway, I saw them live again last September at The Rave in Milwaukee when they were opening act for The Killers.

LP quickly became one of my most-played of last summer. Many of the songs on the album have a softer touch than you’ll find with “Heavy Lifting,” while a few rock harder. But “Heavy Lifting” is probably the song that’s best representative of the band since it treads the line between their harder and softer sides.
