Do you dig the laid-back blues? Do you have a pair of shoes? This Saturday, choose to schmooze with G. Love & Special Sauce at the Majestic Theatre, where they’ll be taking the stage after Giant Panda Guerilla and Dub Squad.

Garrett Dutton, 40, is a product of Philadelphia, PA. In the music world, he’s better known as G. Love from Philly, the dude with the harmonica. Yes, this funktastic god of harmony and soul is a product of Brushfire Records — Jack Johnson’s mellow-rock label.

The lather to his rhyme and slather to his chime is the Special Sauce, now available in two flavors: flavor one, Jeffrey Clemens on drums and vocals; flavor two, Timo Shanko on string bass. Blended together, they gunk with funk!

Start where I started: “Ride” off of G. Love’s 2006 solo album, Lemonade. This intro to G. Love’s smoooove voice and groooovy harmonica will behoooove you to dig deeper.

“Rodeo Clowns” is a classic. This one comes from G. Love & Special Sauce’s 1999 album, Philadelphonic. Featuring Jack Johnson, it’s that song you heard at little Tommy’s pool party ten years ago.

Whether it’s from 1994 or 2010, G. Love’s music feels in the moment. His live performance is packed with enthusiasm and originality. Who else do you know combines hip-hop with a harmonica?
