Considering he grew up in Edmonton Canada in the 1990s, Calvin Love certainly sounds like he was hanging out in a lot of American garages in the 1970s. This is dreamy garage band — someone who clearly really likes Pink Floyd and then found out about electronic music. The result is throwback yet modern and definitely nothing to sneeze at.

The somewhat-fuzzy sound that comes along as a result of what is presumably the use of vintage synthizers in “Missions” holds the potential to sound a little too cool for school. After all, we live in an era of impeccable sound quality, so this can sometimes be the Instagram filter of the music world, yet Love manages to pull it off. Maybe it’s because there is something about Love’s voice and the melody of the guitar that is almost sarcastic. Oddly enough, it makes you feel like you are a part of it — or at least, that you really want to be.
