Usually when I write these daily song blurbs, I listen to the song over and over before putting my fingers to the keyboard. YACHT’s “Plastic Soul” took a little longer: I listened, but then I read. And read and read and read, because YACHT is the smartest band I’ve ever come across.

YACHT describes themselves as more than a band — as a belief system, as perpetuators of “art as ontological birth.” Deeply philosophical and wildly theatrical, YACHT makes music that fleshes out their ideas while being downright infectious dance music. “Plastic Soul” fits like a hand in a glove, telling the story of a world dominated by technology, its soul-crushing nuances, and the individual revolutions that can resist it. In it’s sound, the weight isn’t obvious— the track is a pure summer jam, cruising through its four minutes with poppy synth and charmingly chanted vocals by lead singer Claire Evans. So give it a spin, and click that link when you’ve got a couple hours to spare. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
