While I could only faintly hear the music from Grimes’ set at Pitchfork Music Festival while waiting toward the front for Kendrick Lamar, I could still tell I was missing out on something. From what I could see on a monitor near us, she had at least two dancers and herself on stage getting the crowd into her music, and from what I could hear there was some bumpin’ bass on several of her tracks as well.

Although Grimes is traditionally a more experimental electronic artist, her recently released single “Go” is one of her first steps in moving toward the mainstream. Having signed to Roc Nation in late 2013, “Go” was a song originally written for Rihanna. With the song being turned down, it has now been taken on by its original authors. Much like her Pitchfork performance, the deep bass is a key element to this track. Additionally, the structure including buildups and drops makes the track accessible for EDM fans far and wide, and the metallic percussion heard throughout the track accents the beat nicely. Grimes’ next album has yet to have an announced release date, but it is sure to be something you don’t want to miss.
