Little Daylight’s debut, Hello Memory, is composed of three-minute songs that can only properly be labeled as summer jams: the hooks are huge, the beats are big, and the synths are shimmery. Our introduction to the trio was through last year’s Summer Jams mixtape, and it’s hard to imagine them existing in any other season. In fact, I’m not entirely convinced Little Daylight doesn’t pack up their belongings and hibernate each winter.

Potential hibernation habits aside, there’s not much that Little Daylight can offer that their contemporaries can’t. Like ON AN ON and CHVRCHES before them, the trio specializes in upbeat synth-driven songs that make you want to dance until you take a gander at the lyrics sheet. Unlike their contemporaries, however, Little Daylight bring little substance to go along with their sugar-fueled sound.

Hello Memory is by no means a bad debut; Little Daylight show big promise on shiner “Mona Lisa” and opening the 1-2 punch of “My Life” and “Overdose.” Yet for an album titled Hello Memory, Little Daylight’s debut is strangely forgettable. Much like those summer nights where you stay out later than you originally planned, you remember it being fun—but you can’t remember why.
