Earlier this summer, J.E. Sunde (of The Daredevil Christopher Wright fame) released his first solo record, Shapes That Kiss the Lips of God. Though his previous work with Daredevil rang of innocence and joy in the face of the darkest situations and sufferings, Shapes finds Sunde narrating a more complicated picture as he writes on a more personal level.

During his time with Daredevil—who’s currently on hiatus—I had the opportunity to witness Sunde play multiple solo sets. And it was throughout these sets that he fleshed out the songs that would eventually comprise Shapes, a timeless sounding record that’ll surely serve as a great companion as summer folds into fall, and fall into winter.

Jonk Music is proud to present, via Elder Studio, a live video recording of Shapes standout “Easy Kid.” The segment was shot August 8 at Madison’s High Noon Saloon during one of Sunde’s many opening dates with PHOX, and it serves as a testament to his ability to somehow be more potent in person than in the studio.

This is not only an impeccable vocalist mesmerizing a crowd, but a singer-songwriter on his singing-and-songwriting A-game. Enjoy.
