Between my limited attention span and the fact that I feed off of musical energy, my musical cravings typically lead me to the active, the attention-grabbing, and the emotionally saturated. “True” is none of these things, and yet here we are.

Operators’ single doesn’t fit my usual specs, but its clean, tech-y bounce gives me good reason to stray. Admittedly, I didn’t know the name Dan Boeckner before this track, but pieces suddenly fall together when you see his ties to Handsome Furs, Wolf Parade, and Divine Fits. Getting back to his comfort zone in the vocal forefront, Boeckner’s new venture has been synthed and streamlined, placing Operators on the upbeat side of space-out synth-pop.
