Move over, Lorde. I’ve got another 16-year-old indie pop gal on deck who is wise beyond her years. Grace Mitchell is one of my best music discoveries of fall—not only is her music so soulful you could melt into it, but she’s also got the voice of a really cool, calm, and collected angel.

“Broken Over You” is a song about infatuation, a particularly abhorrent torture that most of us probably know a thing or two about. The track is emotionally upfront and at times even blunt, manifested in simple lines where Mitchell is able to accurately express certain feelings that most of us find too complicated to put into words ourselves. This conflict of emotion reveals itself as soon as the first verse:

“Tripping on words that I didn’t say
Getting so lost in my head games
Making me feel kind a cold inside
I feel like leaving and I don’t know why”

So if you’ve been feeling a little bit crazy in love lately, cool your heels with this wonderful track. And if you want to hear more, check out her other single, “Your Design.” It should hold us over until she releases her first EP.
