Though Noel Heroux’s synth-rock outfit is known as Hooray for Earth, the sound they produce is about as spacey as one could get. Their cheers come from a celestial place, delivered in “Keys” through thumping synth and chugging guitar riffs that burn up as the enter the atmosphere. Despite the soaring meteor shower of sound, Heroux grounds the track with his inviting vocals. It’s indicative of a more welcoming sound overall for Hooray for Earth, a widening of the tent, and “Keys” sounds like a perfect festival rock jam.

After its humble beginnings from various recordings done in Heroux’s home, Hooray for Earth has expanded its sound and regularly evolved on the fly. Their openly experimental sound and willingness to ride the waves of creative impulses resulted in the July 2014 release of Racy, the album “Keys” can be found on. Hooray for Earth might be off in space but they’re building something more permanent there, a place that is well worth visiting.
