Troves’ record label, Nude, emerged from a seven-year hiatus to release this single, and it makes absolute sense that this trio from Brighton is the group that would inspire the label to come out of its long hibernation. The pop trio takes 1980s-tinged synth, throws in some bubbly melodies, tops it off with the beautiful voice of their lead singer Lani Mcdonagh, and emerges with the dreamy “Youth in Decay”.

You’d never suspect this uplifting-sounding track to have lyrics as melancholy as “You’ve got me manic, I’m manic from all the madness/Your heart only brings mine sadness.” That’s what really makes Troves so great though—they make pretty, easy-to-listen-to pop music, but the underlying messages dive into deep emotional territory.
