Possibly best known for their collaborations with rising MCs Danny Brown and Ab-Soul, Canadian electronic duo Purity Ring bring us some new original material as they continue to work their new album. For those that follow the duo, there seems to be a good amount of hype around the release. Unfortunately, the song does not live up to expectations, and subsequently leaves us longing for more, better music that we know they can make.

The song is not by any means bad. Clean synths and a crisp beat mesh well with Megan James’ serene vocals. Much like its music video featuring a woman floating in an Exorcist-esque pose, it’s simple, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But compared to the greatness that is “25 Bucks,” there is a flair missing on this new track that the duo may not be able to produce on their own. With the new album somewhere on the horizon, let hip hop heads like me hope that some harder beats are being produced for the album and that Purity Ring’s label is making moves in the features department.
