Dreams are one of the greatest mysteries of the human brain. Storytelling takes on a new form in our subconscious, creating detailed landscapes and narratives over the course of a night only to disappear when our bodies lift themselves out of the trance. That state of serenity is pulled away from us faster than you can say “class at 8:50”—unless, of course, you’re Tei Shi.

The Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter stands at the intersection of shoegaze and R&B with songs that are both beautifully resonant and hypnotically bold. Her latest single, “See Me,” feels like a Wild Rumpus dreamscape, eerie and playful. The track is produced by Glass Animals’ Dave Bayley, who brings together layered synths and ambient production to perfectly frame Tei Shi’s gorgeous voice. It’s an entrancing way to stay in that dream state just a little bit longer.
