After a three-year hiatus, Scottish band The Twilight Sad has brought on another bought of shoe-gazing with their newest album Nobody Wants to Be Here and Nobody Wants to Leave, which dropped in late October. Using the long break from writing as a means to reset their vision, the band opted for a larger, more dynamic sound than their previous work.

One of the singles from their new LP, “There’s a Girl in the Corner,” is saturated with angst, evident in the steady, meditative guitar riffs and the plaintive synth licks that color the track. Smiths-esque vocals mourn a mysterious girl, crying She’s not coming back from there.” The result is a soulful lament that is more insistent than explosive, complete with the charm of a heavy Scottish accent.
