Megan Kibby, of M83 fame, has spent the last several years branching out and creating her own work under the moniker White Sea. After testing the waters in 2010 with her first EP, This Frontier, Kibby at last released her first full-length album in May of this year. Experimenting with live instruments such as horns and strings, Kibby fashioned a multi-textured and entirely self-produced work that varies throughout in tone and style.

One of the singles off of the album, “Future Husbands Past Lives,” is an addictive pop piece shimmering with ’80s dance beats and catchy hooks. Kibby uses production skills garnered from years of remixing the work of others to expertly layer multiple instrumental textures, and her powerful voice soars above the mix with an otherworldly range reminiscent of Mariah Carey’s golden days. With such a strong showing as this, White Sea is sure to see high tide for some time to come.
