If you’re anything like me, you probably spent most of your adolescence thinking that the ’90s grunge rock scene was the height of cool. You probably displayed this belief by wearing flannel and owning a skateboard. Most importantly, you most likely borrowed your dad’s old guitar and tried to create hits in the basement. Well, Hanni El Khatib seems to have had this fantasy as well. However, unlike most of us, he is actually good at it. Really good.

Off his most recent album Moonlight, “Melt Me” emulates the nostalgic garage rock that is a defining aspect of our generation. The structure of the song is exactly what you want out of this kind of music—a rhythmic chord progression that supports alternating guitar melodies. Lyrics that you wish you had thought of when you were trying to woo your middle-school crush. Seriously…

“Come over and melt me
like an ice cream cone in the sun
come over and melt me
why can’t you finish what you begun”

…sung over a killer guitar solo? One thing is for sure—this girl would have been bicycling over to your house is a minute flat. So, sit back and enjoy while El Khatib melts your face off.
