GGOOLLDD, if you were wondering, is “gold” filtered through drunk vision. At least that’s how frontwoman Margaret Butler explained it at FRZN Fest this winter. With an easy grasp on what it means to grow up, GGOOLLDD keeps us living in our “younger days.”

“Boyz,” the highly energetic single to follow-up the Milwaukee band’s digital EP $TANDARD$, is perfectly in tune with the same youth-hungry pop that seems to naturally infiltrate their music. In the music video, as well as on stage, Butler is the magnet of everything GGOOLLDD stands for. Dressed in thrifty gold leggings and wearing shining eye shadow, she dances flirtatiously and gives us the shrine of a beaming manic pixie girl. The tender tap of an electronic keyboard slowly builds the verses into an anthem on young love and budding freedom. This seamlessly stems into a perfectly orchestrated chorus, with trumpets blazing through light-hearted demands to “tell me what to say, boy / tell me who to be, boy / tell me ’bout everything.”

Departing from the youth nostalgia and bittersweetness of their recent album, “Boyz” is the party sans hangover, the love sans heartbreak, and the hope of never having to leave a moment of pure, unadulterated fun behind.
