“Everything is easier in the dark with you.”

You know when something is just kind of doomed? Or maybe you’re not ready to call it doomed per say, but some unpleasant, nudging truth has begun to creep upon you: the realization that something only feels good because you can’t see it properly. For most of us this may occur in the fragile first part of the morning when you’re walking home. Or, perhaps while staring at your ceiling waiting for last night’s hangover to wear off. Every so often, though, you find yourself looking at that person and in one gut-punching moment it comes to you: “It’s just you’ve fucked every girl in the room.”

Though it’s tempting, I think it would be pandering to say that Scottish newcomer KLOË is wise beyond her years. After all, she’s 19—not exactly an age that most of us associate with wise romantic reflection. However, she’s part of a complicated generation; a generation where our access to one another is so unlimited (social media, texting, etc.) that it sometimes results in isolating ourselves from the individual. Somehow, in a time of excess communication, it has become more complicated than ever.

I think we all have a certain amount of ambivalence towards this fact, which is what KLOË so perfectly captures in her debut single “Grip.” The song is a delicate framework consisting of pop and electronic beats slowed down to a melody that almost trods along, giving you time to take every delicious piece in.

We’re still waiting on a release date for the full album that goes along with “Grip,” but according to her Facebook page, KLOË’s next single is expected to drop soon. Do yourself a favor and download this now, and get ready to have all the feels.
