“Music is magic.” If you ask Brooklyn-based producer Adrian Michna what he believes in, that’s what he’ll say. And if you team him up with MNDR, the solo project of L.A.-based producer, writer, and electronic artist Amanda Warner, that’s also what you’ll hear.
So what does Michna’s particular brand of magic sound like? In the case of single “Solid Gold,” it begins with a rat-a-tatting beat over the chug of dark electronics. Then MNDR’s ghost-of-a-girl vocals drop, intoning that “the fire needs to feed again,” and the song enters the same bewitched territory that Goldfrapp makes their home. In short, Michna’s magic is exactly what the title of the track suggests – solid freakin’ gold, and a damn good listen to boot.
