One of the biggest reasons Mac DeMarco is such a notable musician is his infectious, down-to-earth personality. His laid-back character makes you feel like you could be best friends with him despite DeMarco’s enormous success in the indie music scene. He’s real — plain and simple. This is especially evident in his videos. DeMarco has been known to feed the funny bones of fans through homemade music videos that have the endearing quality of a tenth grader’s school project. Mac did not fail to disappoint when he recently released a video for his song “Another One,” the title track of a new album set to be officially released in August.

The lo-fi video stars the man himself, dressed in Michael Jackson attire while playing the keyboard in the ocean. It frames the song perfectly. In fact, a friend of mine described it as “SeaWorld music,” and after listening it is apparent that there’s really no better description. The somber story of a loved one finding someone else and the floaty melody complement each other beautifully. It’s got just the right amount of that signature Mac vibe, while also introducing new and refreshing sounds that are sure to please fans. While it sounds cleaner than his older music, the video shows that Mac DeMarco is the same goofy dude as always and not changing any time soon.
