Mackenzie Scott, aka Torres, released her writhing, aggressive sophomore album Sprinter in May. Within that seething (and absolutely top-notch) record lay the bright spot of “Cowboy Guilt,” a celebration of new friendships and the joy of moments that you’ll remember for unremarkable reasons.

Filled with marching synths and slippery riffs akin to St. Vincent, Scott revels in her personal history rooted in Southern charm. It provides a colorful contrast to the rest of the album’s dark tendencies, bouncing through adolescence with the warm glow only memory can provide. If you’re in Madison and like what you hear, look for tickets to her October 18 show at the Orpheum Theater. If you’re elsewhere, find a date near you.
