1980s-inflected power pop group Decorations have it pretty good right now. They just got signed by Frenchkiss records (Passion Pit, Local Natives) and are gaining serious momentum online. The band has been around for a few years but is just now getting the love it deserves. Devon Geyer, frontman and principal songwriter, has a knack for melody and writes monster hooks that perhaps even Springsteen — a clear Decorations influence — would envy.

On “Girls,” the title track from Decorations’ new EP (out today), the band showcases their fun, energetic sensibility. Decorations are not reinventing the wheel, and I think they would admit that. Instead, they’re giving the beautiful, rich, mahogany pop rock wheel a polish with some wonderful artisan cleaning products from Trader Joes. “Girls,” at a lean three minutes, accomplishes what it sets out to do — it’s an upbeat, positive track that you will likely sing along to within thirty seconds of pressing play.
