Miike Snow’s first track since 2012 is quite a transformation from past albums. Comparing “Heart is Full” to tracks like “Animal” or “Paddling Out,” you would think this is a completely different group. The up-tempo, cheerful nature of those hits is a thing of the past, but the quality of music is still consistent.

“Heart is Full” instantly booms with a wall of sound in its powerful blend of synth, bass and vocals. The track exudes a much darker atmosphere than past albums, which may come as an unwelcome change to some listeners — but artists change, and as a result their art follows suit.

One of the more interesting changes in this track is that the sound gives much more of an electronic vibe in terms of genre. As opposed to “Paddling Out,” for example, which feels more like a band playing, “Heart is Full” feels like DJs with a vocal feature. This difference gives an idea of what to expect with the rest of the impending album. Regardless, it will be exciting to see what kind of listener base it will garner.

The new album, iii, will be coming sometime in 2016.
