“Colours”

Currently being touted as one of this year’s “Ones to Watch,” Grouplove, who formed on the Greek island of Crete yet hail from the US and the UK, release this 6-track EP prior to the release of their first full-length later this year.

The EP itself kicks things off in style, with single and EP highlight “Colours.” The song carries the rhythm and drive of Modest Mouse’s “Float On,” with added punch and delirium, and with the type of anthemic chorus that’s bound to be sung back by many a crowd this summer all thrown into the mix, we’ve got an early contender for a track of the year.

Next up is “Naked Kids,” with its Beach Boy harmonies, handclaps and refrains of “Cruising down the highway with my friends, top down, and we’re all on our way to the beach” more than creates a harmonious, relaxed image that will only be further enhanced by the arrival of those longer and warmer days of the year. Elsewhere “Don’t Say Oh Well” is pure pop punk, and by the time vocalist Christain Zucconi sings “I told my bandmates, they are my soul mates” the band’s name and positive outlook all but speaks for itself.

A promising EP packed with catchy songs that are bound to be a hit at this summers forthcoming festivals, from a new band deservedly picking up praise from the indie press.
