Late last month, R&B crooner and lawsuit-via-dropkick defendant Miguel released his first record in nearly three years, Wildheart. His third album to date, Miguel shows on Wildheart how he is more than just a sexy voice. With a majority of writing and production credited to him, Miguel surprisingly injected a healthy amount of rock influence into the project. “Face the Sun” is a solid entry within this vein, featuring Lenny Kravitz on guitar and lyrics that would make any woman feel special.

“Cause when it’s time to face the sun, I know that you’re the only one” are words generally reserved for the intimate monogamous relationship. But when a married R&B artist works phrases like this and others into their work, individuals single and taken alike can still appreciate the message.

Does a person’s relationship history affect the quality of the love songs they write? I suppose that’s up each listener to decide.
