If I had to pin Avi Buffalo to an image based on their alternative sound, they would be a cross-country road trip in an old Ford Galaxie. The band is rooted in my native California, founded by guitarist and singer-songwriter Avigdor (shortened to Avi) Zahner-Isenberg. Look at that eclectic name.

“So What” is a pre-released single from their upcoming album, At Best Cuckold, which will be released on September 8. With the soft rumble of simple guitar plucks and cool bass progressions, “So What” would be perfect with a side of weed. I can’t speak out of experience, but it does come off as the ideal weed song. Combine that with the aforementioned road trip and you have yourself a swell weekend. “So What” gives the impression of a building energy, despite a relatively limited and almost deadpan tonal range. Zahner-Isenberg’s bright voice brings the song together. With random lyrics (“I had a dream that you were acting normal / It made me wake up feeling like a stone”) and muted background vocals, the music has a liquid charm that will keep you melting.
