North Carolina sextet Annuals have released a new EP entitled Wet Zoo via Canbasback with a new full-length slated for early fall. The buzz-worthy ‘net band continue with their experimental indie-pop combining earthy acoustics with electronic flair. “Sore,“ the first single from their EP released April 1, opens with singer Adam Baker’s fragile voice accompanied by a wire tap sweep brush against a drumhead. True to their colors, the song progresses with tempo shifts, electronic static, and distorted beats amidst strings and keyboard flourishes. The half-step key modulation near the end invites a Conor Oberst-esque wail and lures the listener to escape on a sonic adventure into the rural Raleigh countryside.
