“Top Bunk”

Despite their epic sound, Gauntlet Hair‘s noise-pop is slung together by just two dudes named Andy R and Craig Nice. It all started when the pair began playing together during high school in their hometown of Chicago. And it’s continued till now, three years after their move to Denver, Colorado and as the duo prepare to release their debut self-titled album this October. On the heels of the announcement of said release, the band are previewing the record with the raucous “Top Bunk.”

Recorded this past spring in the Chicago home of Andy R’s grandmother, the LP is a culmination of the band’s work to explore just how loud pop music can get. That experimentation lead to the inclusion of everything from the big bass sounds of club music to post-punk guitars and even pulse-and-clap cues found in modern hip-hop. While it ain’t no rap banger, “Top Bunk” is a complicated, multi-layer effort that steps on its own toes and loves every second of it.

Gauntlet Hair hits stores October 18 via Dead Oceans.
