“Shake It Out”

Florence & the Machine are gearing up to release Ceremonials, the follow-up to their stateside sleeper hit Lungs. The second song to be churned out of the Machine’s second album is titled “Shake It Out” and it operates on the same mechanics that drove their biggest hits.

Unlike the more subdued affair of first single “What the Water Gave Me,” “Shake It Out” is propelled by the jangly shuffle beat that Florence & the Machine do so well. Beginning with a sweeping organ the song quickly hits its stride, spreads its wings and settles comfortably into a stadium-sized atmosphere. Appropriately, this tune is dropping just as the dog days of summer are ending.

Ceremonials was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London and is due out on Oct. 31 in the UK and Nov. 1 in the US. Speaking to the BBC about the album, producer Paul Epworth said, “It’s going to be more stripped down, but it’s heavy, rhythmically. It’s a much heavier record than the first album.” That is a pretty accurate description for “Shake It Out” and promises a pretty solid second record.
