Greylag drops their first EP this month, and it does more than announce their birth into the music scene, but kicks off the music that will soundtrack your summer.

This Portland-based duo has a laidback, folk sound that puts you at ease, having the ability to be emotional without melancholic. I’d go as far to say that they are the new Mumford & Sons, a similar presence but with a sharper edge. Andrew Stonestreet and Daniel Dixon, the former of West Virginia and the latter of California, separately sought out their musical sound across the country, befriending one another along the way. Yet it took both of them to make the move to Portland to realize what their musical partnership could do. It may be the typical story of the two garage band friends making it big, but with first listen of any track off The Only Way to Kill You you’ll realize why their jam sessions must have been more than the average musician. The track “Black Crow” is every bit of folk, from their earthy harmonies to the acoustic/percussion compatibility, but the sentiments it offers is all American rock. Their sound spans from the West Coast to the East, and everything in between with lyrics like “Dark was the night when you came to me, but out with the light I arose to see.”

Dixon and Stonestreet have that playful lightness on the EP as they did when they first started jamming together, and its this feeling that will have you humming their music all summer long.
