With their boppy guitar strumming and humming harmonies, I wish I could say Fossil Collective had struck upon something distinctly their own in their debut album. However, with Let It Go the indie folk group offers a compilation of tracks that are pleasant yet lacking in originality. There are a couple of things I really like about the album — the group offers up some punchy lyrics in the title track “Let It Go” and a vibe that is easy to kick back to. That being said, after listening to the first couple songs you kind of get the impression that to hear one is to hear them all; if anything the group found a style they liked so much that they fall back on it a little too often. It’s not a bad sound at all but they could just use a little variation. I get the impression that Fossil Collection hits their stride a bit more when playing live, for theirs is the kind of music that holds up far better with human interaction.
