Given the extensive experience with the band members of Divine Fits, this was a collaboration clearly waiting to happen. Made up of Spoon frontman Britt Daniel, Wolf Parade’s Dan Boeckner, and New Bomb Turks’ Sam Brown, these guys have outdone themselves with their debut album, A Thing Called Divine Fits, out tomorrow. Stylistically speaking, the album is a bit eclectic — a mix of driving synth on some numbers and thrashing guitars on others, but upon listening to the songs one right after the other, the mash-up of sound is an extremely palatable one.

Their sound may best be described as a little bit rock, a little bit pop, with quite a bit of ’80s throwback thrown in. For veteran musician Britt Daniel, songwriting is a matter of craftsmanship rather than raw emotion on its own — the result is songs that leave little to the imagination yet nevertheless stand strongly on their own. For the most part the album consists of songs that are crisp, clear and concise, such as in the stay-in-your-head type single “My Love is Real.” Even if this genre isn’t typically your cup of tea, A Thing Called Divine Fits is definitely worth a listen or two — the explorative nature of their sound creates a listening experience that is nothing short of fascinating.
