Turn down the lights and get ready to make some questionable decisions, because I’ve got just the soundtrack for your night of sweatin’ and swayin’. Enter Blonds, whose lead single “Run” expertly mixes ’60s soul with modern electronic, ending up with a sound that is downright sexual. Their debut album The Bad Ones offers songs covering a respectively wide range of sound but really hitting their stride with the sultry tone of Cari Rae’s heavy vocals.

Floridians turned Brooklynites almost over night, Cari Rae and Jordy Asher are a duo that is a match both musically and in real life. Despite their couple status the two avoid sounding too “coupley” at all — even their love songs, such as the cleverly worded “Time,” offers just enough edge to cut the sweet of the romance. Blonds are also great in their ability to mix things up musically. Though Cari does most of the singing, we get a delightful taste of Jordy in the group’s cover of Lana Del Ray’s “Born to Die.”

Musically, Blonds have come a long way since their original Dark Roots EP in 2011. The sounds is more polished, and the songs have more substance. With the mature sound of The Bad Ones it is clear that Blonds is a band ready to get their budding career rolling. If this is what they can do in a year, cheers to the possibilities of 2013.
