Hot damn. I’m not quite sure where to start here. AlunaGeorge’s single “Your Drums, Your Love” offers a little bit of everything. Soulful and deadpan at the same time, the British electro pop duo has spun a song that is more than a little bit magical. “Drums” is a true piece of musical design, and the real beauty of the song truly comes through in the music video, directed by Henry Scholfield and featuring artwork by British artist Arran Gregory.

The pairing of AlunaGeroge is a bit unorthodox: Aluna Francis is entirely vocals while George Reid sticks exclusively to production, though they exist as a duo nonetheless. It’s a cool combination. “Your Drums, Your Love” predates their debut full-length album and is already beginning to collect the accolades for a duo sure to be around for a while — the group was shortlisted for the Critic’s Choice award at the 2013 Brit Awards.

Due to its recent popularity, electro-pop is quickly becoming a genre that is difficult to make a statement — AlunaGeorge seems likely to be an exception to this conundrum. I can’t seem to turn these guys off. Maybe it’s the tension between the completely earnest lyrics and Aluna’s ambivalent tone in her vocals, but you tend to notice something new with every play. George Reid’s carefully designed beats create the same effect as the vocals: succinct and overwhelmingly underwhelming. Keep looking for more from AlunaGeorge; their debut album Body Music is expected to drop this June.
