There’s a certain warmth that hits when listening to Troumaca’s “Lady Colour.” That’s lead singer Sam Baylis’ soothing voice floating over dub-inspired tropical production. The Birmingham, UK bred five-piece group are named after the equally-tropical Caribbean town Troumaca, St. Vincent. The entire crew includes Baylis, Geoff Faulkes, Matt Campbell, Jim Nayak, and Tom Gregory.

Troumaca’s first EP, Gems, was self-released in December 2011 and hinted at what was to be expected from them as a group. The single from Gems, “Sanctify”, is more soul-influenced than their newer tracks; it touches on their now signature tropical sound but isn’t quite as polished as the rest of the tracks.

“Lady Colour” is the standout track from their second EP, Virgin Island, released on Brownswood Recordings. Between the dub-influenced bass lines and glossy keys, “Lady Colour” feels like a warm weather, chill-out track. It is rich in idiosyncrasies, from steel drums that appear out of nowhere to warped synths. These sounds combined with the semi-psychedelic video are capable of instantly transporting you to an airy sun-drenched beach.

There is no release date yet for an album but they are working on it now. Until the LP arrives, plug in your headphones and let “Lady Colour” take away your winter blues.
