Blazing her way down the same path as other cotemporary artists such as MØ and Niki & the Dove, Elliphant is indicative of the direction electronic music is beginning to take. Or more specifically, Swedish electro pop with all of its energy and over-our-head lyrics. The style is ultimately gritty, full of energy, and possesses equal amounts of frustration and optimism throughout.

Elliphant is a bit less polished than some of her musical peers, a characteristic that comes through as more of an artistic choice than anything else. The power behind her husky vocals matches well with the “live and let live” content of the songs, all the while exploring both the light and dark sides of this particular approach to life. The single “Down on Life” is a perfect example. It has a certain nonchalant vulnerability to it in the wake of softer-hearted lyrics combined with a dub beat that is completely loud and in your face. As she is described on her website, Elli “…pulls the balls of this dancehall slayer through its own throat and ties them in a cherry knot the other side.”

I think you get the picture.
