I can’t get enough of UK electro-pop.

CHVRCHES, Dan Croll, Everything Everything, Disclosure, and AlunaGeorge (to name of the few of my most recent addictions) have all sprouted from that little set of islands across the Atlantic which continues to export electronic gold. Fryars is no exception. Although Fryars’ Benjamin Garrett has been producing music since 2007 with lukewarm responses, “In My Arms” may be prompting a critical double-take.

I’ll admit, Garrett’s latest track may have a chorus you’ve heard in more songs than you can count on two hands, but believe me: you;ll get past it. “In My Arms” strikes a delicate balance between echoing vocals floating on a slow groove beat and a punctuated percussive energy that grows as the song develops. The track’s traditional piano melodies provide a grounding element, offering a vintage twist in a genre so often consumed entirely by digitization.

While I don’t think the video adds much to the song, it does prompt a number of questions. How long can someone breathe in there? How do you get out? Do you develop a greater sympathy for hamsters?

“In My Arms” is by no means a dance track, but it does have a stirring quality. You won’t be driven to rock-out, but to a foot-tap or head-nod? Without a doubt.
