Heavenly Beat, the solo project of former Beach Fossils’ bassist, John Peña, released its sophomore album, Prominence, on October 15. The Brooklyn-based group, which consists of the aforementioned Peña and four live performers, made the album available for free streaming earlier this month via Entertainment Weekly.

The first single from the new record, “Complete,” is a particularly upbeat and groovy track that seems to emulate the carefree nature of summer time and beautiful weather. The airy melody and lyrics contribute to the overall cheerful attitude of the single.

The beginning of the song seems to take some inspiration from Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, until Peña beautifully transitions to an ’80s club sound for the bridge and finally a Caribbean style for the chorus, which includes airy steel drums to reinforce the sense of tropical relaxation. This is the perfect track for a nostalgic session of reminiscing about the highlights of summer. Hopefully it can help take the mind off of the impending months of hibernation.
