On the track’s SoundCloud page, Kill J describes “Bullet” as a song “dedicated to the victims of other people’s bullshit convictions. People who act sinful, hateful and ungodly in the name of their God.”

Well-constructed dissonance rarely fails to capture my affection. In a protagonist with some inglorious anti-hero qualities, in a bittersweet end to a story with more lose ends than you had wanted, or in a combination of sounds that doesn’t intuitively belong together, so often an edge of discomfort and ambivalence provides a refreshing break in the mold.

The track, from Danish pair Kill J, artfully marries R&B rhythm with sweet but scathing vocals, a droning beat, and a charged, hypnotic chorus. Pulsing bass and humming synth combined with the delicate but cutting vocals which weave between tranquil and explosive provide “Bullet” a similar dissonance to that which the song is dedicated.
