“Eventually” is the most recent single unearthed by Tame Impala before the July 17 release of their third album, Currents. Like each of the four that have been revealed, the single has a unique sound that exhibits the transition the band is undergoing while maintaining their psychedelic mastery. Along with a change in musical style toward a more electro-pop feel, the song tells the story of a change in a relationship between two people.

It begins with an upbeat tempo that includes the familiar guitar riffs characteristic to the band. However, it eventually turns into what sounds like an ’80s synth ballad. During this change in style, the lyrics begin to suggest a change in destiny. The lyrics can easily be applied to the hopeful longing for a new-found happiness after a breakup that has been difficult to initiate despite knowing it’s for the best. Similar to the time it takes for these breakups to occur and the wounds to heal, “Eventually” has a slow buildup that leaves the listener unsure of whether any conclusion is ever actually achieved.

“Eventually” is capable of evoking feelings in anyone that has gone through an alike situation. It optimistically yet somberly tells a story of an anticipated future. It is easy to see that Tame Impala fans will achieve the happiness they have been yearning for with the release of Currents, although the extent of musical experimentation and transformation remains a mystery.
