When we interviewed the members of GGOOLLDD in 2014, they told us that they hadn’t set out to create anything in particular — they just wanted to make fun music. Two years and three recordings later, they’re still succeeding at that seemingly simple goal.

The newest single from the Milwaukee-based band, “Undercovers,” is a pop confection with gritty bass akin to garage and blues rock. Drummer Mark Stewart told The A.V. Club that this is the band’s first attempt at collaborative songwriting, with all five members contributing to the piece over the last year. And, it worked out: It’s impossible not to nod along to Margaret Butler’s lilting vocals and the snaps and pops of the synth.

Ooo, this has all the feels. I think the album art really reflects the sound… I was thinking “I feel like I’m walking on the beach looking really cool” and then realized that I probably internalized the album cover :] Thanks for sharing, Riley!
