Austin, TX’s finest psychedelic bandits, The Black Angels, will storm Madison tomorrow night. Their sound is kaleidoscopic, dunked in ’60s haziness (think 13th Floor Elevators and Velvet Underground) and ’90s British rock (Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine).

To question their authenticity and/or call them revivalists would be pretty futile; The Black Angels established themselves long ago as not only players in, but curators of, modern psychedelic music. They founded the increasingly massive Austin Psych Fest, an annual event that’s counted Primal Scream and Brian Jonestown Massacre as headliners, and they’ve served as a backing band for 13th Floor Elevators frontman Roky Erickson. And oh, speaking of Erickson, the psychedelic legend will open Tuesday’s show.

The Black Angels are a dependably amazing live act and the Majestic’s intimate vibe will complement the band’s textured sound. Be sure to come out early and see Roky Erickson, the legendary soul responsible for massive tunes like this one.
