Dark yet light, vintage yet modern, energized yet chill, Ending People is full of the kinds of contradictions that make music interesting. I like “Beat of My Heart” I think mostly because it combines the catchiness of ’80s New Wave with a darker kind of substance — with these guys you get music that you can dance to but also thinking about. At any rate, it definitely gives you the feeling there is something more going on here than your typical David Bowie inspiration.

Hailing from Denver, Ending People’s debut EP Fill Your Lungs was long in the making. Band members Erin Roberts, Tim Husmann, Jeff Davenport, Justin Croft have all been involved in various projects in the Colorado music scene for years. After coming together in the past year, the group’s website describes the album as “a six-song journey through a post-utopian maze of nostalgia and mystery.” Sounds right to me.
