Mississippi gentleman Andrew Bryant and Justin Kinkel-Schuster are the talented duo that make up Water Liars. The release of their second album, Wyoming, is scheduled for March 5, but we’ve been lucky enough to get a preview with single “Fake Heat.”

This song aches, in the best way. This is an emotionally loaded track, telling a story full of impending doom, one that is certain to come to a bitter end. It’s about two lonely people hoping to hold onto each other as long as they can.

The pace is, fittingly, heavy and slow moving. The sound is simple, with generous space. Kinkel-Schuster’s voice has the ability to give us a warm feel, but here with the strains in the harmonies, and paired with this sad story, it’s more haunting in this track than we’re used to with Water Liars. It’s a back and forth between feeling everything, and giving everything up. This track is a clear standout, and a complete heartbreaker.
