It’s been nearly a hot minute since the internet gifted us music junkies with a female-fronted-synthpop-danceterpiece. But, like clockwork, Scotland outfit CHVRCHES is here to fill the void. The title track to their recently released EP, “Recover” is a candy-coated nod to the ’80s, loaded with synth lines, drum machines, and a determination to dominate the summer radio waves.

The first step to fully enjoying “Recover” is to invest in some serious speakers — when the bass drops on that double whammy of a chorus, you’re going to be glad you have them. And that’s the only step: “Recover” does the remainder of the work with its blissful melodies and sugary robo-claps. Knowing this may sound too sweet for some, lead vocalist Lauren Mayberry tosses in a touch of sour. Her lyrics detail the demise — or potential recovery — of a relationship, allowing “Recover” to balance on the outskirts of both melancholy and pure joy.

You can namedrop a handful of artists who do exactly what CHVRCHES does, but none of them are as fully realized or confident in their sound. Look for “Recover” to be first in a long list of CHVRCHES tracks that’ll have all the bros hitting the dance floor — in the comfort of their bedrooms.
