The debut of Poliça’s new album, Shulamith, shows off lead singer Channy Leanagh’s tantalizing synthpop style in voluminous amount of ways. Her smoke-laden vocals paired with rhythmic digital bass employ a new sound — keeping listeners captivated and entranced. Based in Minneapolis, the band has risen to stardom in the last two years with support from Bon Iver, Rolling Stone magazine, and more A-list names in music.

Leanagh uses Poliça as her creative and emotional release, writing the track “Smug” about the story of a man who cheated. The passion Leanagh achieves in this track is evident from the poignant lyrics and eerie melodies looming in the background.

The beauty in Poliça’s newest album is the diversity they have achieved. Elements of R&B, acoustic sound, alternative rock, indie pop, and more can all be heard in various songs. Whether listening to a single track or the full album, it is hard to deny the quality in the music Poliça produces.
