With “Garden,” Field Report’s Christopher Porterfield teams up with Milwaukee’s lo-fi electronic duo Kiings to create perhaps the best Wisconsin pairing since cheese curds and your mouth. Kiings has been known to celebrate other Wisconsin musicians — they put out a remix EP dedicated to musicians from the Badger State on February 14, including songs from PHOX, Gina Barrington, and Boy Blue. This collaborative crown jewel, however, is on its own level.

“Garden” is reminiscent of Wisconsin’s open spaces with its mournful energy and expansive sound. Porterfield’s raspy vocals float above subtle horn blasts, a pulsing sonic bend, and a clapping groove. The result is precise yet comforting, refreshing and relaxing — a track that is loveable by fans of folk, EDM, R&B, and everything in between. So go ahead, grab your curds, and get listening.
