It’s been a brutal winter. With the arrival of spring, people seem to come out of the woodwork, soaking in that long-lost Vitamin D. But it’s more than their smiles that make that change so evident — even the energy has changed, overflowing from one person to the next

Ha Ha Tonka’s single “Colorful Kids” is an embodiment of that feeling. Released on their 2013 record, Lessons, “Colorful Kids” is bright and poppy while hearkening back to early 2000s rock foursomes (and somehow making that really, really appealing). Lyrically, the track is laced with regret, crying “I see me as I was, you as you were / Me as I was, you as you were / Before the color began to bleed out of us.” But despite its mournful view of the past, “Colorful Kids” makes up for it in top form. Overall, the song goes down as smooth as a spoonful of honey, as sweet as the warm weather it’s soundtracking.
