Peter Martin, the New Orleans-based, Chicago-born songwriter is still in the midst of finding and developing his sound with 90 Pounds of Pete. With the help of producer Adam Stewart, he’s released two solid singles, the physique-focused “Arms” and the slightly more trippy and electronic “Promiseland.” They’re impressive first efforts that suggest more poppy dance tunes are to come. On “Promiseland,” Martin sings the verses in an oddly dethatched tone before transitioning into some heavy synths that make it the kind of party anthem the duo is aiming for. It’s got a sort of woozy quality to it that is oddly intriguing. Check it out and keep your ear to the ground for what 90 Pounds of Pete puts out next.
